The 'lyophobic/lyophilic' is the superordinate concept to hydrophobic/hydrophilic.
In such a taxonomy, one term is a superordinate concept ("animal"), another is an intermediate-level concept ("dog"), and a third is a subordinate concept ("Labrador").
In the latter case, the distinction between subordinate and superordinate concept should be given by the term so that it has the capability of evoking the appropriate context.
