Here, ocean sunfish are commercially caught and consumed, and it is possible to collect samples of ocean sunfish ranging in size from a few kilograms to a ton from fish markets.
Despite the difference in shape, the mass of the two muscles was the same, with a concordance correlation coefficient of 0.999 (n = 24) in sunfish ranging in size from 2 kg to 247 kg (Fig. 3D).
Sunfish density was within the natural range of densities found in the area [1.68±0.68 m−2; 68].
The cruising speeds recorded in this study (0.4 0.7 m s−1) lie in the middle of the range, indicating that ocean sunfish are not slow swimmers.
There were similar percentages for mosquitofish and sunfish THg levels in these sulfate ranges.
This range of food items indicates the sunfish feeds at many levels, from the surface to deep water, and occasionally down to the seafloor in some areas.
The extremes of the 1st PC axis are occupied by benthic and pelagic feeding fishes in every analysis (Figure 3), and this trend exhibits striking similarity to patterns of bentho-pelagic divergence that have evolved rapidly among a wide range of fish species, including cichlids, sunfishes, sticklebacks, whitefishes, perch, and arctic charr [42] [66].
The febrile response can be blocked by inhibition of COX in a diverse range of species including desert iguanas [ 11] and bluegill sunfish [ 12], as well as higher animals like humans.
Examples range from the tiny sea horse to the 450-kg (1,000-pound 1,000-poundn, from the flattened soles and flounders to the blue puffers and ocean sunfishes.
