A summary of the assignment of nonredundant ESTs to functional categories as well as their relative abundance are listed and discussed.
Gene Ontology (GO) terms were assigned to 6,685 distinct ESTs with BLASTx search against the April 2008 release of GO database (see additional file 5: Summary of GO assignment of H. bacteriophora distinct ESTs).
Summaries of these assignments are given in the last column of Table 1, whereas details regarding SAM assignments for each LWC chimpanzee are given in Table 2. Forty-two of the LWC samples were consistently assigned the same estimated origin across independent runs.

After these steps, Parallel-META reports the classification, length distribution, summary of the taxonomic assignments of 16S rRNA fragment sequences and structure difference at different phylogenetic levels among all samples.
A total of 10, 277 unique sequences were annotated using KEGG; 2, 849 of them were related to metabolism, 36 to the metabolism of terpenoids polyketides, and 101 to the biosynthesis of other secondary metabolites (see additional file 3: Summary of metabolic pathway assignments of the 454 assembled unique sequences based on KEGG).
Additional file 1: Table S3 presents a summary of CLARK's assignment of barley BACs (assemblies) to arms (assemblies), while Table 5 refers to the same assignments based on the reads instead of the assemblies ("R2R" assignment).
