HVI is an index of vulnerability that sums aggregated neighborhood population characteristics, prevalence of air conditioning (AC), and amount of vegetation cover in order to cumulate the known risk factors for heat mortality.
The surface albedo, cloudiness, and relative amount of vegetation (i.e., vegetation index) were computed.
Total carbon density, the sum of above-vegetation, fine roots, and soil organic carbon on an area basis was obtained by multiplying the mass of each component by its corresponding weight-basis concentration in each plot.
Thisfigure reveals now more convincing and reasonable smooth curves of the sum of daily mean temperature during vegetation period and aridity index.
The additional causal site (climate) explanatory variables are temperature sum of daily mean temperature during vegetation period (growing season) (temp.veg), and De Martonne's aridity index (ari).
6) The causality and generality of the model for prediction purposes is improved by use of causal site variables like sum of daily mean temperature during vegetation period and index of aridity. .

Such changes result in the prolonged vegetation period, increased sum of temperatures and mostly, decreased sum of precipitations.
The sum of the total effluent, sediment, and vegetation Se masses averaged 3 18% less than the total influent Se mass.
Except for the driest site, the simulated medium-term response of evapotranspiration (ET, sum of transpiration by perennial and seasonal vegetation plus soil evaporation) was a decrease in the order of 10 80 mm year−1 for an increase in Ca of 63 ppm (Fig. 2).
