We determined the number of tender points (range, 0 18) and the total tenderness score (TTS = sum of tenderness level in the 18 positions; range 0 54) in each participant.
The Tender Point Index was calculated as the sum of each positive tender point score divided by the total number of tender points.
We also calculated the TPi as the sum of the scores of all tender points divided by the total number of tender points.
The TPS was the total number of tender points.
These analyses also correlated responses by Simplified Disease Activity Index [SDAI]: a simple numerical sum of swollen joint and tender joint counts, patient global assessment of disease activity [PtGA], physician global assessment of disease activity [MDGA], and C-reactive protein [ 20].
The CDAI score (a scale of 0 to 76.0) is the numerical sum of the 28-joint tender and swollen joint counts and the patient and evaluator global health status, each assessed on a 10-cm visual analog scale [ 22].
