The A.I. has a tendency to suggest replies that say the same thing in slightly different ways, which is less useful than offering users responses that represent a range of different likely replies.
In order for Google to add dinners with friends to your calendar or suggest replies, it needs to be able to read your messages — which it can't do if your chats are end-to-end encrypted.
An updated version of Inbox, one of Google's mail apps, will "read" your e-mails and offer up suggested replies.

There are a number of areas where we have not seen collaboration, but that could be ripe areas for it — for example Cortana integration into LinkedIn's new "smart replies" feature that suggests replies and wording to people sending messages to each other; or Skype integration into the same messaging service to allow for voice and video calling.
