Serena Wylde London Jeremy Hunt's fixation on a controversial weekend effect (Hunt hindering seven-day NHS, say staff, 24 August) deflects attention away from a far more serious problem: that of addressing avoidable patient deaths caused by error grounded in poor clinical teamwork, such as miscommunication between a ward team and a surgical team.
In such circumstances, miscommunication has deepened between the classes; the Conservatives' demeaning of trade unions has helped to strip the working classes of what public voice they had, so that the middle class has effectively become the new decision-making class.
Factors such as miscommunication and social and cultural differences between patients and health care providers [ 28, 29], poor understanding of medical advice [ 30], inherent racism in the health system [ 31], lack of transport [ 32], geographic isolation [ 33], and lack of Indigenous support persons [ 34], have been cited as some of the reasons for treatment disparity.
Findings from a sample of non-Indigenous women at risk of preterm birth identified important issues such as miscommunication and uncaring staff behaviours that negatively influenced care uptake [ 16], with studies that have focused specifically on the experiences of Indigenous Australians echoing these results [ 12, 13, 15].
Some analysts blame the volatility on miscommunication, such as around cotton prices, while others question the rate of the company's expansion.
Past studies have shown that patients who seek medical treatment for OAB often encounter negative experiences such as experiencing miscommunication with health care providers [ 10, 11] and receiving treatment from doctors who lack knowledge about the diagnostic tests for OAB [ 11].
We cannot completely rule out some reporting bias and miscommunication in such situations.
I don't think they were necessarily bad people, but I think the miscommunication made it such that the experiences were mismatched.
More integration of mainstream refugee health services and dental services would also help, e.g., by reducing clinic attendance difficulties such as interpreter use, transport, miscommunication and multiple appointments.
