A number of MPS-based studies of heteroplasmy across the full mtGenome, most of them based on a substantially lower heteroplasmy detection threshold, have reported higher rates and/or different patterns of PHP than those observed in the above-referenced datasets.
Recently, Schultz et al. [ 13] found rainfall washout to increase endosulfan in the Lourens River located in the South-Western Cape (from 0.06 μg/L to 0.16 μg/L), but levels were substantially lower and detections less frequent, than that measured in this study and the effect of irrigation was not measured.
Our studies have found an AR amplification in 6 of 596 patients (1%), which is a substantially lower rate of detection.
For the DO method, coverage probabilities were closest to the nominal level for detection probabilities between 30 and 50% but declined substantially for higher and lower detection probabilities (Figure 4).

Lastly, in the globally distributed samples of clinically healthy individuals belonging to 5 species of sea turtles, the average detection rate was substantially lower; 15%.
Since knowledge on lesion localization within the breast was available in almost all studies, true detection rates will probably be substantially lower.
