The natural variants of mycolactone share the core ring structure but vary in their unsaturated polyketide side chain [2], the core structure being substantially less toxic than the intact molecule [3].
Equally important, isradipine was substantially less toxic at higher doses than the other DHPs: at concentrations up to 100 μM, isradipine continued to protect against Aβ-associated toxicity without causing a substantial increase in cell death (Anekonda et al., 2011) (and data not shown).
Our results confirm previous observations [18], [19] that the α-gliadin locus Gli-D2 encodes the most toxic α-gliadins while substantially less toxicity is associated with those from Gli-A2 and Gli-B2, but also provide the molecular basis for these differences.
Moreover, the emergence of substantially more effective and less toxic new breast cancer therapies has been slow.
Thankfully, a next generation of better ARVs is on the horizon (Table 1), and some of these individual ARVs could be combined in regimens that should be easier to implement, less toxic, more durable, and also substantially less expensive to manufacture (Table 2).
However, the concentration of NO2 in Mexico City air is substantially lower than that of O3, and NO2 is less toxic than O3 at the same concentration.
