Between different age groups there was strong evidence of substantial variation (P<0.001); patients in the 65 74 age group reported the most positive experience, whereas younger patients reported substantially less positive experience (unadjusted OR 16 24 vs 65 74 0.48), as did patients older than the 65 74 age group (unadjusted OR 85+ vs 65 74 0.77).
A recent national survey of over 40,000 patients with a broad range of cancers identified the fact that younger patients and ethnic minorities in particular reported substantially less positive experiences of involvement in decision making [ 203].
