Time Warner is all, "But, you can get these channels for free over the air, and many times online, why should we pay you (and raise our subscribers' prices)?" So, rather than pony up the cash so far, at least Time Warner is telling its subscribers how to watch these networks online for free.
Even when Time Warner cut the per-subscriber price to less than $4, the answer was still no.
Sure, the revenue that Netflix brings in is not the sum of all the dollars spent on home entertainment each year; but, given that it is a pretty significant hunk of money, and that Netflix perhaps aids sales of movies by allowing its users to "watch before they buy," it is worth keeping an eye on how the subscriber price hike affects their user base.
These per-subscriber prices assume that a Hughes deal gets done.
A few years ago cable companies fetched as much as $4,500 or even $5,000 per subscriber, prices that got Adelphia and Charter into trouble.
The company says that the average Yarn subscriber (pricing starts at $2.99 per week) spends 50 minutes reading in the first week.
But for some AOL subscribers, the price increase alone is enough.
Netflix saw a rise in domestic operating margins to 16percentt, from 14.9percentt in the fourth quarter, largely due to an increase in streaming-only subscribers and price increases on hybrid subscriptions.
That's why AOL Time Warner cable's average monthly revenue per subscriber is up 7% year-to-date to more than twice online's $24.37, which is down 5%–despite the 9% subscriber-fee price hike in July.
There are Standard, Gluten-Free, Diet, Vegan, or Snacker options for subscribers, each priced at $19 a month.
