For each subject, peak parameter estimates were extracted within each mask for each scene condition and object baselines.
It is clear from our experimental controls, that the differences between subjects' peaks cannot be explained by criteria shifts, attention-related effects or auditory and/or visual anomalies.
Second, exclusive elements corresponding to specific microarray probes were identified using a one-sided Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) test in affected and healthy subjects; peaks found only in either group were selected for further analysis.
Collectively, and variation in ingestion protocols notwithstanding (e.g. capsules, bolus loads or dispersed over time), these studies illustrate around 40 min of variation between subjects' peak in blood buffering capacity [3, 131, 132].
Procalcitonin (PCT) levels begin to increase 3 4 hours after injection of an endotoxin stimulus in human subjects, peak at about 6 hours and then plateau for up to 24 hours [8].
We then created a volume of interest in the form of a sphere of radius 8 mm centred on the single-subject peak.
As demonstrated during several euglycemic clamp studies in healthy subjects, peak glucose infusion rates were significantly higher and occurred significantly earlier with insulin aspart than with RHI (Table 1) [ 34, 36– 38, 40].
In these subjects, peak force in error trials was far smaller than in go trials, confirming that motor inhibition was present, but not entirely successful during these trials (40.0 ± 9.9 N versus 212.0 ± 11.7 N, p < 0.001, paired t test).
Then, in each single-subject t-contrast map for the emotion contrast (social > basic), thresholded at P<0.005 uncorrected (minimum voxel extent 4), we used SPM2 to locate the nearest local maximum to the centre of this volume (i.e. the nearest single-subject peak to the co-ordinate [0 48 9]).
If the subject's peaks did not fulfill the afore-mentioned criteria they were not taken into account in the analysis.
