[ 38] On the basis of our findings, we contest this and other generalising statements about students' disinterest in socio-medical fields [ 14, 15], pointing out that many of these statements are based upon aggregated data only.
[ 21] Even if an instructor feels that a student's beliefs and attitudes may be changed with regard to racism, sexism, and other forms of discrimination, a percentage of these respondents (13%) still perceive students' disinterest in HHR as a barrier to implementing reform.
But it is very important to note that medical students' interest or disinterest in subjects, e.g. in the case of students' disinterest in epidemiology or social medicine in Germany [ 22, 23], does not in itself either increase or reduce the importance of these subjects, nor does their interest or disinterest alone justify the inclusion or exclusion of subjects from medical education.
However, our findings suggest that the standing of men's health in the community may be a bigger barrier to adopting enhanced men's health training for medical students than apparent disinterest within medical schools.
Subsequent, enduring student disdain and disinterest in this neutered nonmascot (a color) engendered the Stanford Tree, purely a Stanford band reactive creation, hence not an anointed representative of the university – regardless, the Tree gets way more air time than the respected and admired university president, John Hennessy.
In addition, participants noted budget constraints (10%), disinterest by students (12.8%), apathy on the part of their colleagues (28%), and difficulty in finding time to implement - either in the preexisting curriculum or their own schedules (20.5%).
Further, she claimed that the pressure to publish had influenced a rise in 'intellectual dishonesty, academic espionage, academic plunder, the me-orientated attitude, disinterest in students and teaching, as well as a lack in collegiality' [ 1].
Finally, these ideas do not address the disinterest that medical students and residents have for nephrology.
Disinterest among the students was also cited as a reason for academic failure, discontinuation and training disruptions.
Where participants reported negative outcomes, these were related to disinterest, although some students also reported being upset by the content of questions related to recent life events.
This outcome illustrates, in our opinion, not so much the disinterest of the students in the impact of the disease on the patient but the lack of experience with RPL in our curriculum.
