This is a practical approach since there is a well-known discordance between structural degeneration (so-called radiographic OA) and clinically significant OA, and it is likely that many persons in this age group would have incidental radiographic findings of OA.
Read-pair methods detect structural variation based on discordances in length and/or orientation and can, in principle, detect insertions, deletions, duplications, and inversions.
