Lack of employment opportunities and essential services in rural areas, exacerbated by rising sea levels and erosion, have caused a steady stream of migration to the cities.
Isoglosses in the United States, for example, run predominantly in an east-west direction, reflecting the westward stream of migration during the colonization of areas west of the Appalachians.
