Altogether, these data suggest that the local conformational changes of lid closure and NTD-rotation are part of the rate-limiting barrier to the closed state and are regulated by N-terminal residues of the strand swap and extended strap in TRAP1.
Given the similar accelerating effects on ATPase and dynamics as studied in multiple organisms, it is likely that the β-strand and the strap are acting on the same barrier.
