Other than that, in these S5-deficient structures, the very 5′ end of the 16S rRNA (single strand region, residues 1 8), as well as the first helix h1, is also highly flexible (Fig. 5C and 5E), indicating that the 5′ end of the 16S rRNA in these structures is in a conformation distinctive from its mature state.
Interestingly, the peak encompassing the ß2 strand region [11], [40] dramatically decreases if the m8 mutant is analyzed by PASTA (Figure S3).
As a next step, the coverage region was split into potential gene regions (e.g. forward strand region and reverse strand region).
The other complementary strand region contains the two putative pseudo- dpo genes.
Interestingly, the WIFTIR sequence of MST3 corresponding to a low-probability strand region is conserved in both YSK1/SOK1 (WTFPPTIR) and MST4/MASK (WSFTTVR) (Table 2).
As shown in Table 1, the Cysteine at this buried position located within a strand region (E) is highly conserved (8.9).

Hydropathy at positively selected sites in coil, helix, and strand regions is less conserved than at all other sites, however, the opposite is found in β-turns.
Additionally, we have found no obvious correlation between aggregation propensity and change in charge in amino acids that concentrate to a particular structure (beta strand versus non-beta strand regions, surface versus interior; see Supplementary Material, Fig. S1).
SerC9 is probably not part of this strand as its φ, ψ value is at the edge of the β-strand region (φ = −90o,ψ = −164o).
To elucidate structure function relationship, we determine the solution structure by NMR and find that lt14a comprises a short duple β-strand region and β-turn motif.
A 176 residue section (residues 28 203), which spans most of the 214 residue molecule, and two short secondary structure chain segments including an α-helix (residues 169 188) and a predominantly β-strand region (residues 188 203), were labeled.
