Bayesian methods implemented with the computer program MrBayes v3.1.1 [32], [32] were applied to generate the dendrograms and to assess statistical supports for the branches from 16,000 trees generated from the original dataset.
A summary of the statistical supports for each of the resurrected kinases is presented in Figure 2 figure supplement 1.
The statistical supports for internal branches were estimated by the non parametric bootstrap method on 500 replicates.
The distributions of statistical supports for each topology along gene trees also indicated a high gene tree/species tree conflict.
Statistical supports for different a priori selected hypotheses were assessed via the Approximately Unbiased test (AU, [ 35]) and unilateral KH test [ 36] using Consel [ 58].
It should be noted that, when the taxon sampling was enlarged to Insecta, the resulting tree shows an overall poor statistical supports for major deep nodes (Additional file 8), possibly due to the limits of mitogenome datasets in resolving deep phylogeny of Insecta [ 38, 58].
