Diefenbaker broke the deadlock by proposing that the conference not reject South Africa's application, but instead state in a communique that racial equality was a principle of the Commonwealth.
"Europeans expect us to do better when it comes to providing security, prosperity and hope for a better future," states the summit communique.

The G7 communique states: "Given our prominent share in the globalisation process, G7 countries have an important role to play in promoting labour rights, decent working conditions and environmental protection in global supply chains.

But at the end of the summit, the other leaders added a paragraph to the final communique stating that Britain's concerns about the future direction of Europe will need to be addressed.

On the diplomatic side, Gambia recognized that "Beijing is the sole legal government representing the whole of China and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory," the communique stated.
The rebel group's radio station put out a communique stating that it had "no information" about the attack and calling on the government to agree to a bilateral ceasefire.
The National Front against the Coup called for a nationwide mobilization to receive the president, stating in a communique, "With the aim of giving a grand reception to our constitutional president, we call on all the Honduran people to be prepared and organized on this date for a huge march to the meeting at the place and hour to be announced soon".
To be fair, the G20 communique does state that the anticipated recovery should be "green and sustainable", and the promise to "reach agreement at the UN climate change conference in Copenhagen in December 2009".
