Comparing standard epochs with epochs having an earlier peak latency also resulted in a significant difference in ITPC around target presentation (dependent samples t-test (t(19) = −3.2602, p = 0.0014 with higher ITPC for epochs with an earlier ERP peak latency (0.2908 vs 0.2593) (Fig. 2B).
That is, because they were phase-locked during pretty much the entire duration of both right and left standard epochs, and because these epochs alternated, the phase locking must have been effectively continuous.
Different numbers of epochs were entered into the average (i.e., one standard tone epoch and one deviant tone epoch, or averaged standard and deviant waveforms consisting of 2, 3,…,40 epochs).
The mean number of epochs accepted for averaging for each of these stimulus types was 214 for standard tone epochs and 66 for repetition deviant epochs.

The continuous record of each valid IC was divided into six groups of epochs for standard trials (approximately 950 trials/noise condition/subject), one for each noise condition.
