IN a city chronically short of resources, spending at least $600 million in public money just for the stadium's platform sounds outrageous.
In addition to recliner seats on stadium-style platforms, the theater will have the technology to offer digital presentations of Broadway shows, sporting events and concerts on wall-to-wall screens.
According to people who have seen the plans, the basic stadium (without the platform it would be built on) would cost about $800 million.
But taxpayers, or tax increment financing, would have to foot the bill for constructing the base for the stadium -- a platform over the rail yards -- as well as a retractable roof, two items that together would cost an estimated $500 million.

Their developers, Waystone, have already secured planning consent and are now preparing the development platform for the stadium.
