Composite fibers from polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and softwood lignin (SWL) were successfully fabricated to investigate the effects of lignin on fiber properties and thermal stabilization reaction kinetics.
DTA experiments demonstrated that the stabilization reaction, which transforms polyacyrlonitrile into an insoluble, rigid structure, is delayed by the presence of the comonomer.
It can be seen the onset temperature of stabilization reaction decreases slightly with the addition of nanotubes.
It was found the onset temperature of stabilization reaction shifts to higher temperatures and the Ea decreases with the heating rates (see Figures S2 and S3 and Table S1 in the Supporting Information) because of the thermal lag effect.
For immunohistochemistry pre-treatment, the FFPE and HOPE sections were deparaffinised, using EZ Preparation Buffer, pH 7.0, followed by stabilization reaction with TRIS Buffer, pH = 7.6-7.8 (VenTucsonedicAZ Systems, TUSAon, AZ, USA).
The activation energy, Ea, for the stabilization reaction can be determined from the TG curves using the equation developed by Broido 3where y is the fraction of the number of initial molecules not yet decomposed, R is the gas constant, Tm is the temperature (in Kelvin) of maximum reaction rate, RH is the rate of heating, and Z is the frequency factor.
