An unmoved pawn has the option of moving one or two squares forward.
If you move a stray checker a few squares forward without moving the rest of your checkers, that piece will be vulnerable to capture.
It happens immediately after a player moves a pawn two squares forward from its starting position, and an opposing pawn could have captured it if it had only moved one square forward.

The kings move one square in any direction (eight possible moves); gold generals, or golds, move one square in any direction except diagonally backward (six possible moves); silver generals, or silvers, move one square in any direction except backward and horizontally (five possible moves); and pawns move one square forward.
