"spread structure" is a correct and usable term in written English.
It is used in linguistics to refer to the structure of a sentence in which the subject, verb, and object are separated by other information. For example: "The elephant, standing in the corner of the room, trumpeted loudly."

Earlier in August, Facebook's data scientists looked at data from June 1 through August 17, and visualized the challenge's spread across the U.S. The spread structure was centered in Boston, which Facebook speculates could be attributed to former Boston College baseball player, Pete Frates, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2012.

Figure 1 presents a more complicated record because several oblique spread structures (OSSs) were observed during the displayed time interval, whereas only one OSS occurred on each signal path in Fig. 2.
As the cells spread, structures positive for both the proteins resolved into more tubular-vesicular morphology and NDRG1 was seen to colocalize with recycling E-cadherin (Figure 2A).
The absence of tyloid pores might indicate that they no longer serve as release and spread structures for a courtship pheromone.
In Sussaba cognata, the only species in the Sussaba genus group that does not possess any tyloids but still performs antennal coiling in the coiling test, one could imagine that the morphological requirements for coiling have not yet been completely reduced, although the tyloids as release and spread structures for a courtship pheromone are absent.
Such data would provide insights into how the different aspects of the tyloid/antennal coiling system co-evolve, i.e. the behaviour of the males per se, the morphological prerequisites for the movement, the tyloids as release and spread structures for a sex pheromone and finally the preference of the females.
