After inoculation, the bacterial load in chilli samples was found to be reduced more than 2 log for E. coli, Klebseilla spp., Vibrio spp., Bacillus spp., Salmonella spp., Listeria spp., and Pseudomonas spp. and Staphylococuus spp. (Fig. 1, Additional file 1).
Candida spp. load was calculated as the number of positive respiratory cultures and the sum of the load (in thousands of colonies) of the cultures divided by the total cultures taken, using cultures from day 1 until decolonization, ICU death or discharge, whatever came first.
Shigella spp. load in some samples.
Then the leaves were cut into pieces and Salmonella spp. load was determined as described above.
The high Salmonella spp. load in the present study perhaps could also have resulted from contamination through the value chain thus beginning from the production sites.
Candida spp. load was classified as mild, <10, moderate, 10-10, and severe, >10.
Legionella spp. load was high; 77.8% of the water samples contained > 104 CFU/L.
The ABDC-treated group had a similar Candida spp. load but did not decolonize more rapidly as compared to untreated patients.
The AB decreased indicators of Candida spp. load but increased the duration of mechanical ventilation as compared with nontreated patients, associated with a higher CPIS and LIS, even in those with similar degree and duration of colonization and thus probably Candida spp. load at baseline (P < 0.001).
This study also revealed significant differences in faecal coliforms and Enterococcus spp. loads between the Apies River sediment and water samples.
In the 11 patients with Aspergillus spp. infections only, median CD4 cell count and median viral load were 32 cells/μL (3 254) and 7,720 copies/mL (0 86,500), respectively.
