Spike half-width was measured spike duration at half-amplitude.
As expected for PV+ basket interneurons, these cells had low input resistance (115.55+/−32.00 mΩ (n = 3 cells); their spikes were narrow, with a spike half-width of 0.82+/−0.06 ms at 26 degrees Celsius and a large spike after-hyperpolarizations (18.55+/−4.07 mV).

Following the same classification protocol, we found 4 NFS cells with a delay to the threshold spike (dNFS) and 2 larger NFS cells with a short spike half width (0.9 ms), which identifies them as NFS1.
To distinguish between these two hypotheses, we plotted the change in spike half width for units throughout the seizure, from within the same small area of the principal component phase plots as the original cluster (Fig. 3E).
The effects of Pyr3 on complex spike half width appears to be comparable, in that it increases half-width towards levels observed in lobule X, while genistein predominantly has an attenuating effect on half-width and spike area, possibly due to its less selective nature.
This showed an increase in spike half width at the time of recruitment for data points within that area of the phase plots, thus indicating that the occlusion hypothesis alone cannot account for all observations, but remaining consistent with the PDS hypothesis.
These correspond to populations that have been previously described as regular spiking nonpyramidal cells (RSNPs; Kawaguchi 1995; Butt et al. 2005) but can be further subdivided based on the presence of a delayed spike at threshold or the spike half- width (Miyoshi et al. 2007).

For action potential half-width measurements, the spike threshold was defined as the point where the rate of depolarization exceeded 75 mV/ms; spike amplitude was measured as the difference between the threshold level and the peak of the spike.
Single-unit spike trains were transformed into spike density functions: each spike was replaced with a raised cosine waveform (half-width: 10 msec).
