These images were acquired by mounting specimens of pollen from each species onto separate SEM stubs, coating them with gold-palladium using a sputter coater, and imaging them at 2000×, 6000×, and 12,000× magnification using a JEOL JSM-6060-LV JSM-6060-LV JSM-6060-LV MaSEM JEOL USA USA) at 15 kV (Mander et al., 2013).

We collected 13 bat specimens with pollen of Ipomoea taxa, L. mordax (eight individuals) and G. soricina (five individuals).
Eleven of fourteen coprolite specimens showed good pollen preservation, acceptable pollen concentration, and diversity of both arboreal and herbaceous taxa, together with a number of non-pollen palynomorph types, especially fungal spores.
For example, changes in the composition of pollen loads collected from bumble bee specimens reflected changes in abundance of an invasive weed in northwestern Europe (Kleijn and Raemakers 2008).
Several plant taxa (e.g. Cyperaceae, Ericales, Pedicularis and Sphagnum) show both high and low pollen deposition values in quadrats where the taxa actually occur, indicating differential pollen production/deposition among specimens of the same taxon.
The identification of pollen types found on the body of bat specimens was carried out using the reference collection of chiropterophilous plant species found in the study area (Queiroz et al. 2016).
Previous fossil specimens of the family have primarily been pollen grains, giving little insight into what ancestral plants might have looked like.
In the absence of a trophy dodo specimen, the researchers focussed on the broader ecological picture — the stuff that fills the private dreams of pollen men and gravel men but is harder to put in a press release.
Similarly, the shape of the grass pollen pore (Schüler and Behling, 2011a, b) can be hidden from view because of the orientation of the specimen on the SEM stub, and the collapsing of grains on the SEM stub can prevent the overall size of pollen grains from being measured accurately (e.g., Moore et al., 1991).
Clouds of pollen blow across the pastureland.
"There are issues of pollution, preservatives, the potency of pollen".
