The effects of specimen size, area fraction of coarse aggregates and porosity on the nominal tensile strength of concrete are investigated by uniaxial tensile simulations based on the Monte Carlo random aggregate model.

Zero-field imaging was performed in the JEOL 2100F-LM, which has a residual out-of-plane field in the specimen area of <0.4 mT and a spherical aberration coefficient, Cs, of 109 mm.
