Comparing studies made in different species implies that orthology relationships have to be calculated between species, using an algorithm that takes account of multigene families (a particularly important consideration for the Paramecium genome, but extant in all genomes).
Finally, based on sequence conservation across species, a computational algorithm has been developed to identify genes associated with disease [ 14].
