The word "southwest" is correct and usable in written English
You can use it as an adjective to describe a certain direction or position relative to another point, or to mean the region of the United States that includes Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Texas. Example: We drove southwest from Las Vegas and ended up in the Grand Canyon.
