The participant is asked to report the percentage of time spent at different levels of activity (inactive, somewhat inactive, somewhat active and very active) on one weekday and one Saturday, and examples of the types of activities are given with the questionnaire.
Using the graduated step-based physical activity index, 42% of patients were classified as inactive, 29% as low active and 29% as somewhat active and above [ 33].
ActiGraph physical activity categories: Inactive (<5000 steps per day), low active (5000 7499 steps per day) and somewhat active and above (≥7500 steps per day).
From this number, activity levels were estimated, where < 5000 steps indicate sedentary, 5000 7499 steps low active, 7500 9999 steps somewhat active, and 10 000+ steps active.
The daily step count was used to categorize patients according to step count cut-offs for activity levels defined from healthy adults: sedentary <5000, low active 5000 7499, somewhat active 7500 9999, and active ≥10000 [ 34].
Based on intervention mean steps/day, approximately 25% of the participants fell into each of the limited, low active, and somewhat active step-defined physical activity categories.
Physical activity categories included: Inactive (less than 1/wk), Somewhat active (2-4 times/wk), and Active (5+/wk).
In the analysis, the patients' self-reported physical activity was classified into four groups: (1) regularly active (those who reported 5-7 days of 30 minutes of moderately intense physical activity); (2) moderately active (3-4 days); (3) somewhat active (1-2 dand); and (4) inactive (0 days).
A widely used classification scheme for daily step counts initially proposed by Tudor-Locke and Bassett [13] and subsequently revised [14] categorizes individuals achieving <5,000 steps/day as sedentary; 5,000 7,499 as low active; 7,500 9,999 as somewhat active; 10,000 12,499 as active; and ≥12,500 as highly active [13] [15].
The scale has been used previously in survivors of ALL in childhood and adolescence, 44 and is based on the duration and intensity of physical activity with the latter categorised as inactive (eg, lying down), somewhat inactive (eg, sitting), somewhat active (eg, walking) and very active (eg, running).
This can make it much easier to relax and get the rest you need to stay energetic and somewhat active.
