Most of the faults have strike slip movement, with those in the northern plateau being sinistral and those in the southern part dextral, although some normal faults are associated with graben and pull-apart basins.
Also, recent work of Noten Van et al. (2013) has concluded that some normal faults were reactivated causing a left-lateral deformation in a transient strike-slip stress field with NE-SW orientations.
We found some normal-fault type earthquakes in the active cluster at the central part of Atotsugawa fault, however, the duration of their activity was short.
Some aftershocks of the normal fault type occurred beneath the outer rise (Figs. 1(a), 3(d)).
The focal mechanisms were mostly characterized by strike-slip motion with a normal fault component to some degree.
