Although most people working on the evolution of resistance would agree that there is indeed some compartmentalization in the field, a thorough analysis of how the scientific community is structured had never been conducted, and the factors structuring it had never been identified.
This points to some compartmentalization within the narrow rhoptry neck allowing the release of bulb components in membranous whorls for example, through the centre of the channel.
A detailed characterization of the antigen specificity of CD8+ T-cell populations in four patients indicates that the majority of the epitopes detected were only recognized by CD8+ T cells derived from either skin biopsies or peripheral blood, indicating that some compartmentalization occurs after TriMix-DC therapy.
However, some interstitial species of nemerteans [ 42], molluscs (especially in several wormlike gastropods such as Helminthope [ 43], Rhodope [ 44], and Pseudovermis [ 45]) and catenulids [ 46] also show some compartmentalization of the brain having, for example, visual and olfactory centers (Table 3).

The models developed here are not, actually, linked to this particular scenario, which we adapt for the sake of concreteness; however, co-selected ensembles of RNA molecules and some form of compartmentalization are salient conditions.
Moreover, as life is unlikely to have started in an extreme dilute solution, this suggests that it was, from the beginning, bound by some sort of compartmentalization [ 5, 6].
Not so if some form of compartmentalization is taken into account, be it explicit (as in Szathmáry and Demeter 1987), or emergent as a consequence of the dynamics in discrete spatially extended systems, for example, in the form of spiral waves (Boerlijst and Hogeweg 1991), or travelling waves of replicators/parasites (Hogeweg and Takeuchi 2003).
For efforts on reconstructing the non-cellular LUCA, a key guiding principle is that, although modern-type cells, presumably, did not exist at this stage of evolution, some form of compartmentalization was required to ensure concentrations of substrates and genetic elements sufficient for effective replication and, consequently, evolution.
Some form of compartmentalization, for instance in liposomes or porous rock [ 44- 46] may have provided the environment for early life when short strands of complementary oligonucleotides (see [ 17, 42]) form in populations of abiotic microenvironments, for instance the pores of porous rock.
This value is significantly higher than the estimated maximum solubility of the penta-Mg2+ salt of Ins P6 proposed to exist in vivo (approx. 50 μM [ 38]), and may be explained by some form of compartmentalization in acidic vesicles (see [ 38] for discussion).
These studies all indicate some degree of genetic compartmentalization between lung and blood as well, though the methods used to define compartmentalization varied.
