Elizabeth A. Long's cat-festooned grid was a smooth and satisfying solve for me.
This was a smooth, fun solve for me, and I particularly liked the somewhat Scrabbly northeast and southwest areas.
That sullied the end of the solve for me, but it's O.K., because all in all, this was a nice Tuesday debut.
This was an interesting solve for me, because there were parts that seemed way easier than most Saturday grids (WHITE NOISE!), and pieces that were just downright cruel but fun (I'm looking at you, Z TILE).
I just wish there wasn't so much clunky fill and crosswordese: ODESA (a variant), ALOE VERAS (is there more than one?) STAGER, YSER, EDATE, EFT … it saps the joy out of a Tuesday solve for me, which should be smooth and quick.
If you filled in the double rebus H&R BLOCK, you did better than Mr. Jennings: There was just a bit too much here that was not in my wheelhouse to make this a smooth solve for me, but kudos, I think, for the Onion-like clues at 1 Down and 56 Down (go see for yourselves).
