When you consider the environmental and geopolitical consequences of our remaining dependent on oil – from rising sea levels to our funding both sides of the "war on terror" – it is amazing to see a solution arising out of brilliant and sexy engineering.
Determining the most suitable solution arising from the conceptual stage is a time-consuming and costly process.
In this work, mechanisms for the recovery of fine water drops suspended in a sunflower oil + decane solution, arising from the injection of gas bubbles in the form of slow continual streams, are assessed experimentally and modelled mathematically.
