The movie itself, directed by Wayne Blair from a script by Keith Thompson and Tony Briggs, is sort of the opposite — a solid, stirring song sung with more sincerity than polish.
These are handsome epics that make big claims on both the moral high ground and the audience's emotions, and that tend to elicit words like solid, stirring and old-fashioned from critics.
