Arabidopsis seeds were sown on autoclaved soil (Metro-Mix 200, Grace-Sierra, Malpitas, CA) and vernalized at 4°C for three days.
Arabidopsis thaliana ecotype Col-0 seeds were sown on the surface of soil (Metro-Mix, Sun Gro Horticulture, Agawam, MA, USA), which had been premixed with an equal volume of vermiculite and placed in plastic pots 6 cm in diameter.
Plants were grown in long-day lighting conditions (16 h of light/8 h of dark) at 23°C on soil (Metro-Mix 360, SunGro, Vancouver) in environmental growth chambers.
