All other non-calcareous soils, i.e. sand, loess and peat soils, had a pH near 4, indicating that these soil are strongly acidified, with poor sandy soils and peat soils being most acid.
Replacing arable lands and grasslands with planted forests has large effects on ecosystem-level processes, such as increasing primary productivity, acidifying soils, regulating fire dynamics, influencing invasive species occurrence and affecting stream flows, among others (Jobbágy et al. 2006).
