Combination of hard σ-bonding systems with soft hydrogen-bonding interactions can lead to wheels containing more and more high-spin ground states to open the way to molecular magnets.
All the five co-crystals are constituted by the utilization of the R22 7) synthon, created by the combination of hard N-H⋯O and complementary soft C H⋯O hydrogen bonds. 1 and 2 illustrate the formation of three component aggregate as in both cases BPA interacts with carboxylic acids to form supramolecular ladder-type assembies.

The behavior of the materials was correlated to their structure: SIBS is an amorphous block copolymer with a long elastomer midblock, while PU and PED are semicrystalline segmented copolymers with much shorter soft blocks, and hydrogen bonding.
