Of these 27,779 participants, we excluded those from study centres in Italy and Umeå (Sweden) (n = 5,238) because these centres did not obtain specific intake data on diet soft drinks, breakfast cereals and dressing sauces (Italy) or diet soft drinks and cabbages (Umeå), which are important dietary components of the selected dietary-pattern scores.
