Financiers vow they will build an entirely new banking industry that doesn't rely so much on loan repayment.
But, there is one problem with this: many students end up with so much student loan debt that they can't even start working on getting ahead until they get that debt paid off, which can take several years.
If that spread ever became too pronounced, Fannie and Freddie could end up in the disastrous situation of paying so much for loans that it would become unprofitable for them to borrow.
