As snow melts and refreezes repeatedly, what collects comes in a variety of sculptural forms — in slender icicles, thick slabs of icy snow, rolling waves of crystallized snow, pools of blue ice.
Functional group 2a (snow-pool mosquitoes) and functional group 2b (floodwater mosquitoes) constitute most of the mosquitoes tested.
Notably, the F. tularensis detection rate in female floodwater mosquitoes (6/13 pools, 46%) was higher than in female snow-pool mosquitoes (2/12 pools, 17%).
Mosquito species positive for F. tularensis holarctica sequences were A. punctor (snow-pool mosquito), Ae. vexans, Ae. sticticus (both floodwater mosquitoes), and Culex pipens/ torrentium (Table 1).
Notably, the detection rate of F. tularensis was higher in floodwater pools of female mosquitoes (46%) than in snow-pool pools of female mosquitoes (17%).
We detected F. tularensis holarctica in the floodwater mosquito species Ae. sticticus and Ae. vexans, the snow-pool mosquito species Ae. punctor, and a mixture of Cx. pipiens and Cx.
