The results are highly correlated with LDL cholesterol determinations by ultracentrifugation (r>0.95) and dextran sulfate precipitation (r>0.95), but an increased recovery of small, high density LDL particles is observed, which more adequately reflects the atherogenic risk of LDL.
Close examination reveals that PCP expressing cells do in fact occur within the high density zone, but only in large cells which intermingle with the smaller high density sensory precursor cells (visible in Fig. 7B,C ).
These small, high density cells were additionally distinguishable from the surrounding and larger epithelial cells based expression of pcp, a pupal cuticle gene; only the larger cells expressed pcp. Mitotic activity did not initiate until about 20 24 hrs a.p. and then only at a low level, increasing significantly around 40 48 hrs a.p. and continuing to around 72 80 hrs a.p.
Interestingly, in four loci, the smallest high-density lipoprotein (HDL) measures showed effects opposite to the larger ones, a finding that indicates distinct metabolic characteristics for small and large HDL particles as also previously indicated by the gene co-expression findings in circulating leukocytes [ 8].
Fiducial marker tracking is done by decorating the sample with small high-density particles that create high contrast in the projection images [9-12].
