The detergent molecule is smaller than PIP2 and lacks the anionic headgroup, so it is not surprising that it binds to a slightly different site.
They report that different methodologies used to measure skinfold thicknesses increase variability (such as slightly different site locations, different types of callipers, use of right versus left side of the body, single versus multiple measurements, and different degrees of anthropometric training) but that skinfolds can be measured accurately and reliably by trained anthropometrists.
The sensors were placed at ten appropriate, but slightly different sites on the upper part of the flexor muscles of the lower arm (Fig. 1 ), and ten measurements were done with each instrument before the next instrument was applied.

This great diversity probably provides the variability necessary for these FBG domains to form slightly different binding sites that could recognize different carbohydrates.

The use of non cognate amino acid by aaRS or truncated aaRS is well known [ 35] and the fact that YjeA active site is slightly different than the LysRS2 site may allow for the accommodation (R -β-lysine.
Figure 4A presents structures of Clade I introns (P. pusillum and B. melanospora) which have a U A pair followed by a bulged C. Clade II introns (P. polycephalum and B. utricularis) have a slightly different G-binding site of an A U pair followed by a bulged C. A third G-binding site variant was noted in the Clade III introns (P. compressum and P. didermoides; Figure 4C).
