Peltola et al. [ 20] described only slight new bone formation after two years in the lower surface of the bioactive glass plates by histological evaluation of two cases.
Furthermore, we have performed in vivo study of HA-fucoidan nanocomposites with rabbit model and a slight amount of bone formation was observed in HA-fucoidan nanocomposites.
A few rats in this group also had slight focal periosteal bone formation.
For example, in a previous report, histological examination, performed 2 weeks postoperatively, detected a slight increase in the periosteal bone formation in rat tibias treated with sodium morrhuate [32].

In group 4, lymphocytes and macrophages had infiltrated the materials, and there was a slight increase in fibrous tissue, with no new bone formation between the materials; however, the bone tissue and the materials showed some binding (Fig. 4g, h).
