The mRNA expression levels of Slc1a1, Slc6a8, Slc25a15, Slc26a1 [ 13] and the other solute carrier (SLC) gene family members (listed in Table 1) are significantly up-regulated in the enamel organ cells during enamel maturation, and highlight the importance of SLC-mediated chloride-bicarbonate exchange in enamel maturation.
The neighbor network showed two plausible paths for the evolution of SLC to SLL: 1) SLC Ecuador 3, SLC Colombia, SLC Costa Rica, SLC Mesoamerica; and 2) SLC Peru 1, SLC Peru 2, SLC Peru 3 and SLL Mesoamerica.
