The size of wing lice is strongly correlated with the space between these feather barbs [ 17].
Wings were arbitrarily classified into four groups according to the strength of the phenotype (absent, weak, medium, and strong), as judged from the number of notches and the size of wing area lost.

Additional phenotypes induced by hui RNAi that are not observed for kn include a significant reduction in size of the wing and irregularly spaced bristles along the wing posterior margin.
This changes the shape and size of the wing, precisely controlling the lift that the wings produce.
Therefore loss of pacman appears to induce apoptosis in the wing pouch which could account for the small size of the wing discs.
