The size of the jaws is a function of the numbers of input NCCs, with smaller jaws reflecting smaller numbers since dramatic reductions in NCCs in the facial primordia greatly reduce development of the midface, including the jaws (Etchevers et al. 1999; Creuzet et al. 2004).
The supposed interrelation of cultural achievement and the shape and size of teeth, jaws, and brain is a theorized state of affairs with which some paleoanthropologists disagree.
Posture is not the only influence on those muscles, for the reduction in the size of the jaws in modern humans also contributes to the observed muscular differences.
