The distribution of microdomains by sizes broadened, whereas the DMS either remained unchanged or slightly decreased on dilution of DIPA with hydroxyl-containing chain extenders [1,4-di-N-oxy-2,3-bis- oxymethyl -quinoxaline [1,4-di-N-oxy-2,3-bis- oxymethyl -quinoxaline [1,4-di-N-oxy-2,3-bis- oxymethyl -quinoxaline [1,4-di-N-oxy-2,3-bis- oxymethyl -quinoxaline [1,4-di-N-oxy-2,3-bis- oxymethyl -quinoxaline [1,4-di-N-oxy-2,3-bis- oxymethyl -quinoxaline [1,4-di-N-oxy-2,3-bis- oxymethyl -quinoxaline [1,4-di-N-oxy-2,3-bis- oxymethyl -quinoxaline
Hence, Ostwald ripening reduced the number of particles, increased the average size and broadened the size distribution of particles (Figs. 2 and 3).
The second factor is due to the crystallite size broadening which varies inversely with crystallite size.
All activated carbons have uniform micropores with pore size of 0.8 0.9 nm, but some have a second set of micropores (1.3 1.4 nm pore size), further broadened to 1.9 2.1 nm as a result of increasing either the activation temperature to 750 °C or KOH/char mass ratio to 5/1.
When Ostwald ripening happened, the particle size distribution broadened quickly.
This can also be obtained from the corresponding absorption and PL spectra that showed a gradual broadening of the peaks, which meant that the size distribution broadened, whereas the peaks' positions did not change much (Fig. 3).
