Consistent with the intervention message, prolonged sitting is defined as time accrued in sitting bouts at least 30 minutes in length.
Therefore, interventions to reduce (limit the amount of sitting) and/or interrupt (limit prolonged sitting bouts) sitting at work are needed [ 12].
A study published in September 2017 measured the "bout length" of participants' sitting spells, and found that those who sat for longer stretches of time without getting up were more likely to die during the study's four-year follow-up period than did those who got up and moved around more often.
Differences in bout length subsided between epochs, but differences in bout-initiation rate were exacerbated.
E.g., a bout of length 1 means that 2 responses comprised the bout, whereas a bout length 0.5 means that on average, one within-bout response occurs for every two bout-initiation responses.
For each of these bouts the frame number at the beginning of a bout was subtracted from the frame number at the end of the bout and this number divided into 300 to calculate the bout length in seconds.
The number of strokes taken during the bout was multiplied by 60 and divided by the bout length (s) to calculate the power stroking rate (SPM) for that bout.

Other variables recorded included standing height, sitting height, weight, thigh length, leg length and length of the lower limb.
Birds can also achieve lower activity during incubation by reducing the number of visits per unit time and increasing the length of time per bout sitting on the nest [22], [23].
Sleep related parameters including amount of sleep, latency to sleep, number of sleeping bouts, length of each bout and waking activity etc. were measured (Pfeiffenberger et al., 2010).
